Diabetes: Pioneering a reliable device for continuous long-time glucose measurement

Diabetes patients need to continuously monitor their glucose level in order to adapt their nutrition and insulin doses accordingly. Current measurement methods are painful, inaccurate only incidentally. The patient has no ongoing control and none at all at night.

SanguiBioTech GmbH is developing a (long-term) implantable glucose sensor for the continuous measurement of the glucose level which enables the continuous control over a time period of three to five years.

The sensors are based on optical measuring methods. These methods combine the asset of a bloodless and pain free instant measurement with the decisive advantage of a 24 hour-control. The sensors provide data which can be used to analyse the patients' blood glucose level for a defined period. What makes this approach unique

  1. The use of at least two independent optical measurement systems in one sensor, which guarantees a high signal reliability and increased sensitivity.
  2. Measurements of the glucose levels are also possible in quantities of less than 40 mg/dL which is significant for the assessment of hypoglycaemic (brain) damage.
  3. The measurement of the glucose concentration results from a clearly defined physically simple system (cuvet measurement).
